Take Care of Your Heart

Taking care of your heart is serious, and I’m not just talking about romance! My Dad recently had a quadruple bypass and it was absolutely frightening! Seeing him in ICU with tubes coming out everywhere, restrained to the bed, and on a ventilator took me to another place emotionally, that I had never been to. I was not ready to loose my Dad. The surgery went great, but his lungs waking up from anesthesia did not! That’s when the fear set in. We kept wondering when he was going to come off life support, and if he could. I remember my Mom calling me to tell me, “In 15 minutes they are going to pull his ventilation tube and if Dad doesn’t start breathing they will re-intubate”. I recall the feeling of my world melting around me and feeling so out of control of the situation. Needless to say his lungs began breathing, and his brutal road to recovery started. One thing I brought home with me from the hospital, was how do I keep this from happening to me?! Heart health isn’t the greatest in my family, so I knew I needed to be proactive about it. I did ask my Dad’s cardiologist how to prevent this surgery from becoming my reality. He told me not to smoke, exercise, and to eat healthy. Sounds easy, but for some it’s hard. Try your best to make these 3 things a priority within your lifestyle, because in the end it will pay off! Read this quick article on your resting heart beat to see if its high. If it is get it checked out. Love yourself enough to take care of your heart.

Uh Oh

Loving my Uh Oh box! Great tool to implement within my kid’s lives to help them remember to put away their things. I do recommend looking up chores appropriate for your kid/s age group and having separate pockets on the side of the bin with 3 to 4 chores to choose from inside the pockets. Enjoy!

Zip It, Lock It, and Put It In Your Pocket.

Adult bullies are an interesting species to me. Sometimes I wonder if they even know what they say can effect the person on the receiving end for weeks! I got made fun of a lot growing up. My legs were long and skinny, I had braces which came with a headgear, my hair had a mind of its own when I hit puberty, not to mention my boobs were not the biggest on campus. Mom’s thought due to my thinness I had an eating disorder or was on some kind of drugs, so some of them forbid their daughters to hang out with me. The guys would ask me if I stepped in an ant bed in reference to my chest. I received the nickname Simba (due to my hair) and Noodles (due to my legs). It wasn’t as fun as it could of been, if people would of excepted me for me, but kids are freaking mean, and it taught me to get tough. When college came along, people dug me. I had the occasional (from mostly females) “I thought you were a total bitch that’s why I never talked to you, but I’m so glad we became friends!” attitude. But those comments were few and far between. Other than that the bullying stopped. Then I had kids….2 kids actually, and the comments are popping back up. All concerning my weight. I’m 5’9 and I weigh in at 130. I’m healthy as a horse, workout, eat right, and live well. So why the bullying again? Whose business is it to question my weight, to guess my weight, or to wonder how I stay so skinny all out loud mind you. I’m over it. I’m done. I learned a new phrase from my 5 yr old that pertains to bullies of any age….zip it, lock it, and put it in your pocket. Can we not all just be nice?!?! Like when we were little little?! Instead of commenting against someone’s features, compliment them; and then ask yourself why am I driven to comment against this other person? When you can answer the question, do yourself a huge favor and work on YOUR issue. That’s why we pick on others. It’s because we’ve got something brewing inside that we haven’t dealt with. I even have this issue at times. Honing in on a feature that I find “annoying”. I can have a rough side to my personality, which some may find offensive, when I’m just trying to be comical. When anyone makes another feel uncomfortable in their own skin, thats a no dice feature that needs to be worked on. So, do the world a favor and deal with yourself first, and if you don’t want to deal with yourself….then zip it, lock it, and put it in your pocket.
