Money Saving Tips For Lent

Check out these tips that will save your benji’s from going bye bye during Lent.

Stop expensive habits to save yourself some benji’s! For example cigarettes can be a huge money pit within a budget. Cut it out and save your lungs and or health!

Don’t buy anything you don’t need. Impulse buying can rack up a receipt quick. Get in and get out when it comes to shopping. Stick to your list and don’t wander around aimlessly “looking” around. If you look you will find. Also stay out of stores you know you are impulsive in.

Save your house from clutter and organize! Why not get organized?! It’s good for the mind and body. You’ve got time to do a big project; so take your time and enjoy it. Tackle room to room; and maintain the habit of organization. I’ve got great tips on my Pinterest board “Save The Mess and Organize” you can see here.

While on the topic of organization…..if you’r already organized like a pro or want to begin to organize; donate, sell, or toss items during this Lenten period. You can easily snag an opportunity to de clutter, give to people in need or make some benji’s back!

Refrain from eating out. Just thinking of this bums me; but what makes me happy is the savings I’ll earn through the process! There are so many recipes available and cooking apps that there isn’t a reason that this money challenge can’t be done. My Pinterest board “Save Benji’s and Cook” has some great ideas! Check out my board here.

Be Aware of daily deals within your area. Groupon, Living Social, and Amazon Local are awesome!! Signup for their email blasts and check out the savings.

No purchases on credit card/s. It’s self explanatory and will reduce your debt. You know who you are if this challenge is for you.

Instead of movie theatre tickets rent from home. The movies can be a fifty dollar or more ordeal. It’s a season to go without the big screen. Pocket the benji’s and enjoy the payoff.

Start a weekly budget meeting with yourself, partner, or family. Get on track, plan, and head towards savings. Keep up with your weekly meeting after the season is over with. This is a strong habit to stay consistent with.

What’s cool about the season of Lent is that it lasts just long enough to allow you time to either make or break a habit. So, seize the opportunity to start something beneficial for yourself and your journey of faith.

Falling Off The Bone Good

I used a teaspoon of each of these dry spices (sea salt, white pepper, onion powder, thyme, paprika, & garlic powder) and mixed them in a bowl. I then put the seasoning mix all over the chicken by rubbing and patting the spices in.

I also added chopped up celery, carrots, garlic, and onion at the bottom of the crock pot.

Here’s to falling off the bone! This bird will give us at least two different recipes. Our casa will smell yummy today!

Viola! After 7 hours in the crock pot on a low setting the meat was falling off the bone!

Enjoy; and don’t forget to reuse the broth or freeze it for a later date!

Ice Cream Cake!!!

Oh my, how interesting this was to make. Thank goodness my husband loves me unconditionally because this cake was sooooo not perfect! It will be a great write up for you first timers, of what NOT to do 😉 Ok, so my hubby’s favorite ice cream is Bluebell’s Mint Chocolate Chip. With that being said, I knew he would want this ice cream incorporated into his ice cream birthday cake. His other favorite flavor is chocolate, so that’s what I needed my cake flavor to be. Here’s what I did.

First I made the ice cream mold. I lined the pan with wax paper to make removing the mold easier. We scooped the ice cream into our pan and patted it down. We ended up using too much ice cream, so the mold was too high. If I was going to do it again, I’d have the ice cream at an inch high and then add more if desired. Once our ice cream was scooped out we added chocolate sauce and crumbled Andes mints to the top.

I used what you see in the image below to make the cake:

Just follow the directions on the box or use what your cake recipe calls for. After the cake cooled it was time to put the ice cream on top of the cake. In the picture you can tell the ice cream is way too high; but hey, it’s the thought that counted. 😉

Once the ice cream was set on top of the cake we covered the cake in cool whip and added sprinkles and more crumbled Andes mints. It’s pretty dang hideous looking, but we all agreed it was yummy!!!!

Cheese In Biscuits

I was making up a recipe the other night and I wanted a bread with it. I thought what do I have in my pantry?….Bisquick! What do I have in my fridge?…..Cheese! Then I thought…. Could I tuck the cheese within the dough, bake it, and have nummy nummy cheese biscuits?! I found out, YES I can!! To add to the greatness my 3 and 5 year old loved them AND they were super quick and easy….double score!
